The Palm Bay Police Department set a new record for the arrest of burglary suspects in the year 2006. A combination of citizen action, an aggressive CRIMELINE tips initiative, new crime scene technology, solid work from patrol officers on the street and investigative skills have resulted in the arrest of more than 100 burglary suspects in the last year and cleared more than 200 total burglary cases with charges. “We didn’t have a significant increase in the number of burglaries, but we have been more effective in catching them,” said Major John Blackledge who oversees the Criminal Investigations Division. “Our goal is 100% reduction but we can only get that with citizens locking up their vehicles, securing their homes well and taking active measures to protect their property. In the mean time, we are going to work hard to put those who do commit burglaries in jail.”
